I use Net Gear because I have had two different Linksys routers die on me. You can test this by just plugging the modem into the coax connection in your room and hooking the router up to the modem as it was before. I have 3 coax cable outlets in 3 different rooms. Currently the router is located in the main level by being connected with one of the coax cable outlet. I want to move the router to another room upstair, just want to make sure if I can just plug in the router to the coax cable outlet in that room. MY ISP is Charter and the router I have is the Net gear I connected the wire on my modem that says my bedroom name and it works. If you have DSL service, you can plug the modem into any telephone jack in the to move the wifi aspect to another room, else you'll need a long phone cord.
